Horseshoe in the Morning

Kate Childs Graham Fired
Friday, February 4, 2022

So, while trolling Twitter this morning and consuming multiple semiotic representations of current happenings, one about our Vice President caught my eye. The piece was on conservative commentator Sean Hannity’s website (hannity.com) and, although Hannity’s story may be more  about “low morale” in the VP’s admin circle and the fact that Kamala Harris cannot seem to keep any staff under her employment, (I think a “revolving door” analogy was used in Hannity’s piece to describe Harris’ hiring and firing practices), the true story here is  about one speech writer, Kate Childs Graham, and her role as speechwriter for the administration.

According to Childs Graham’s LinkedIn profile as of this morning, 02/04/2022:

Kate Childs Graham is “Special Assistant to the President and Director of speechwriting for the Office of the Vice President. Previously, she served as a Principal at the speechwriting and strategy firm West Wing Writers and led the speechwriting team for the 2020 Democratic National Convention. Prior to West Wing Writers, she was Communications Director for U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar. During the 2016 presidential election, she wrote speeches for the Clinton-Kaine campaign and the Democratic National Convention. Childs Graham also served as Director of Communications and Media Affairs at the American Federation of Teachers and as Senior Speechwriter at the American Federation of State, Municipal, and County Employees. She began her career working in the progressive faith and reproductive health movements. For years, she wrote a regular column for the National Catholic Reporter and is also the editor of the 2019 book Why I Run: 35 Progressive Candidates Who Are Changing Politics. Childs Graham is a graduate of the Catholic University of America and the United Nations-mandated University for Peace. Born in Indiana, she resides in Takoma Park, Maryland with her partner and their son (LinkdIn, Kate Childs Graham).

Indeed, Childs Graham has an impressive CV and appears to have been writing political speeches for many years. It can only be assumed that her leaving the position of “Director of Speechwriting” for the Vice President was not her choice and can only be attributed, according to Hannity’s staff writers, to the Vice President’s inability to appreciate talent. The recent firing of Childs Graham by the VP and the revolving door policy of hired-one-day, fired-the-next, can certainly be a concern for low morale and stressful working conditions within the office of Kamala Harris’ Vice Presidency.

A 40-year-old Pryor man has been indicted in U.S. District court in Tulsa in a separate car-jacking charge of creating katharsis through “the raw material of language”. Although the individual is also charged with cutting and stabbing an audience response through extreme emotion, as well as educational and political pandering, he is also charged with threatening to kill the victim to avoid elements of persuasion.

Meanwhile, another Mayes County resident increased his penal trajectory while attempting to elude a false accusation of four component causes, he schematized as “material, formal, efficient, and final”. When questioned, the man refused comment but is reported to have made a statement to arresting officers that his actions were “all in an attempt to disallow the consideration of reality as an affective fallacy”.
